The journey of Bruno stillman to electric through NL Refits
This launch was originally built in 1927 towards the end of Nathanial Herreshoff storied carrier. Originally designed for a steam engine we cannot say for sure if that was the first form of propulsion or if this boat was one of the first gasoline powered vessels. Despite being meticulously maintained through its entire life, the 12hp motor was due for an upgrade which can happen after 95 years..
Nova Luxe Yachts was contracted for the electric refit. Requirement was a similar power with enough power to operate all day. Above all else the customer wanted reliability, which is exactly where electric shines! We installed a 4kw WaterWorld inboard motor and a single 6.8kwh battery. The 12v battery was replaced with a step-down transformer and the existing electronics of which it has very little was left in place. The Aesthetic of the boat was extremely important and the new age display was hidden behind mahogany and the throttle was modified to match original aesthetics.
